Sunrise ceremony to honour Plamu

The Gespe’gewaq Mi’gmaq Resource Council is hosting a sunrise ceremony to honour our relationship with Atlantic Salmon. The ceremony will be held on Friday, June 21st starting at 5 am. We invite you to gather at the old wharf in Cross Point as we honour our relationship with salmon.

We have always had a strong connection with Atlantic salmon. Having always fished salmon, they are a critical part of our Mi’gmaq identity. Throughout our traditional territory of Mi’gma’gi, which stretches from Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, eastern New Brunswick and Quebec’s Gaspe coast, several Aboriginal Aquatic Resource and Ocean Management (AAROM’s) will be hosting events on this day to honour Atlantic Salmon.

Throughout the year GMRC has been conducting research and sharing our information with our community members. 2019 is the International Year of the Salmon.
