Attention Eel River Bar and Listuguj lobster fishers!

The Gespe’gewaq Mi’gmaq Resource Council (GMRC) is asking for your contribution with our research on lumpfish. Lumpfish is a thick, round fish with a short head and rounded snout, and the males are red, and females are blue. They are caught as bycatch in lobster traps. Lumpfish is listed as “threatened” under COSEWIC. We are asking for fishers to send us pictures of the lumpfish, along with GPS coordinates of the location where they have been caught. If the fish has died, we are asking for the sample so we can do further analysis on this species. Contact Charlene LaBillois at 686-1615 or clabillois@gmrc.ca to donate the sample to GMRC. We would like to thank you for contributing to this research project.
